CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

The international attribute of management and business has become a major gainsay to institutions, governments and organizations all over the world, because of the rapid globalization in the world. For this reason, the field of international management (IM) has become more significant within the professional as well as academic settings. This also pertains to the pharmaceutical industry in Vietnam and this study would look into the said industry in the context of international management.

Research Aims and Objectives

The aim of this research is to analyze the potential of pharmaceutical industry in Vietnam. In the light of this aim, the author will also accomplish the following objectives:

To highlight the prospects of Vietnam as an emerging economy

To analyze the industry of Vietnam (including foreign firms)

To analyze the reasons foreign firms are investing in Vietnam and the effect of thee foreign firms on domestic firms

SWOT analysis of the pharmaceutical industry of Vietnam

To analyze case studies of Vietnam's pharmaceutical industry.

Significance of the Study

This study would be significant to researchers, students as well as academicians in understanding the pharmaceutical industry as well as international management being practiced in the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry. This study is important because the pharmaceutical industry in Vietnam is growing extensively together with the overall economy of the country and has a lot of potential.

In this regard, it is crucial for researchers to concentrate on important issues at a higher degree of reality in order to better execute governance, which has been pushed into a crisis by the process of globalization. International management would help in understanding the said industry in a realistic fashion and the dynamics pertaining to the particular industry.

Therefore, this study would be helpful, not only in understanding the functioning of the said industry but would also aid in conducting future research on international management practices in the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry.

What are the prospects of Vietnam as an emerging economy?

Why are foreign firms investing in Vietnam and what is their impact on domestic firms?

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

A review of the literature shows that the international management is a very important phenomenon for different industries to progress. In defining international management, there had been many definitions which have been formulated (Chemical Industry in Vietnam 1998, pp.45)

To be precise, International Management is a special type of management, with main objectives such as creation, development and use of the firm's competitive advantage through business opportunities in different countries. At the same time, it employs the appropriate use of economic, social, demographic, cultural and other characteristics of these countries and inter-country cooperation for better execution of processes.
