The acronym SWOT stands for "strengths", "weaknesses", "opportunities" and "threats". It is used in the context of strategic decisions in the business world in order to evaluate business ideas, businesses or whole industries and to simply summarize and analyze results in a clear structure. However, the same SWOT analysis can be used for the training of self-awareness and self-promotion. Personal effectiveness is efficient achievement of personal goals. Personal effectiveness can move from its current state to a desired state and covers the entire life (not just professional field).
Strengths
I consider one of my core strengths to be my ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in written form. I sharpened my skills while in graduate school as a teaching assistant with responsibility for teaching small sections in entry-level history courses, where communicating key points to students was critical to their understanding of the subject. Additionally, my current position as a global commodity manager requires a significant amount of clear communication both internally and externally.
Another strength I possess is my ability to work with people from a variety of cultures. I currently have purchasing responsibility that covers North America, Europe and Oceania. In this capacity, I regularly interact with suppliers from across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, each with different points of view in negotiation and unique perspectives on what defines business success. Without some general knowledge of cultural differences, one could very easily cause offense. Finally, I consider my background in languages to be an advantage in future international management opportunities. I have a degree in German and previously studied Spanish and Russian.
