Personal Statement

I was born and raised in Hayward, California and then moved to Florida. Growing up in a Hispanic culture with a single mother was a value that I believe will contribute to my unique worldview and ability to succeed. The discipline I had for my tennis career has taught me dedication, control, and hard work, which in the film industry will allow me to compete with others and never lose sight of what I am trying to achieve. I learned to lead a team quickly by being the top rated tennis player for three years which I know in the future will allow me to collaborate with a variety of people in the industry and lead with no problems. As a kid, I always made short movies to please and entertain everyone.

Later on, I came to realize the impact a story can have on a person emotionally, intellectually and even physically. I understood that a movie can go beyond just what is on screen and can teach people different ways of thinking. To make any great movie, one cannot do it alone. One needs to be immersed in an environment with people who share the same passion, motivation, and discipline it takes to create a movie. I am striving to begin my path to work with those people who share what I have.

I am looking to attend a school that can help develop all the potential I have to offer. I am interested in the whole aspect of creating a film, from the beginning story idea to the final production that viewers see. Everything in between is what I want to learn and perfect. Creating stories, filming and editing are activities I see myself doing because of the passion I have for filmmaking.

Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. The hard work and artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic.
