Personal Statement

What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field - such as volunteer work, internships, and employment, participation in student organizations and activities - and what you have gained from your involvement.

Communication and International Studies are my intended majors. There is a very close relationship between communication and international studies because there is a connection between people and people around the world, although these are basically two different majors. Communication is a skill and an essential element in this society, and with the help of communication we can get connected with people surrounding us.

Communication builds up the relationship between people. No matter, love, friends, or family, communication is the base of a relationship. Letting people know and understand feelings, wants, needs, expectations are the ways develop and improve the relationship. Being an effective leader one has to have good communication skills. As president Obama said in one of the interviews which was broadcasted across the Arab world, “ My job is to communicate the fact that the United States has a stake in the well-being of the Muslim world, The communication used should be effective. My job to the Muslim world is to communicate that the Americans are not your enemy.” A good communicator can develop and rebuild the relationship through reconciling the misunderstanding.

I personally think that the first step to improve and practice my communication skills is get more connection with common people and know more about what are their needs, wants, feelings, and the best place is going to church. I am a Christian and I go to church every Sunday morning, I recognized that church is the best place to go because people have many different backgrounds or even different cultures. Understanding what people want is essential for a communicator. I'm a drummer in the antechoir; I learn how to communicate with my members. I had been volunteering in the church, such as visiting the elders and cancer patients in the hospital, etc. I also have plenty job opportunities about communication, for example, sales and attending at the reception during the summer.
