In order to define my learning style and the relevance to my studies I would first like to define my personality type which would give a clear picture about the person I am and about my behavior. I am an INFP (Introvert, intuitive, Feeler, and Perceiver) according to the Myer-Briggs personality indicator. INFPs value inner harmony above all else. Sensitive, idealistic, loyal, they have a strong sense of honor on their personal values, and often passionate commitment to ensure that their beliefs and actions are consistent. INFPs are very concerned about the human perception. They value their unique personality and often seek non-traditional way of doing things. Sensitive and sympathetic, INFPs are often very adept at reading between the lines. They may seem cool and reserve on the outside but from the inside INFP's are very deep and sensitive (Jung, 2005, pp. 207).
They are compassionate, sympathetic, understanding and very sensitive to the feelings of others. They avoid conflict and do not try to impress others, or take advantage, unless there is a threat to their values and interests. INFPs seldom express their emotional intensity, often they are silence and calm. However, once they know you, they are enthusiastic and warm. It is important for many INFPs to truly understand and feel their unique perspective and strong values of respect (Jung, 1971, Pp 19-20).
In the class room I like to think out of the box and I try to innovative and creative as much as possible. Though I am afraid to think out loud i.e. share my ideas with others or even my teachers, I considered this to be my drawback. My decision making skills are that I am firm, confident and quick about the decisions I make, though they may not turn out the way I wanted but I never back out of the fact that I made this decision and I take responsibility for my actions. I am a team player I like to help people in my team; I am the type of person who listens first before making a decision. I consider brainstorming an essential part of decision making that is why I prefer to work in teams (Virginia Tech, 2004, pp 10-24).
