Introduction

Objectives are necessary in life for setting a direction for the career / personal development. Setting goals for the future do not only define the path to move on but on the other hand it helps in effectively managing time to achieve certain goals in allocated period of time. It has been recorded in several studies that people who set goals for the future are able to achieve those goals. (McConkey & Collins, 2010) There are different times when an individual needs to set goals like a student want to set goals in which subject s/he is willing to pursue advanced studies, or an entrepreneur want to set goals where s/he wants t o see his/er organization after a limited period of time. Goals setting are also crucial for countries as different state set goals for the future and make policies in order to achieve those goals. Setting and achieving goals is also a fundamental component in healthcare sector in particular for managers in the sector. The acceptance of goal setting in this sector is however may be based on its commonsense appeal rather than on a strong theoretical grounding or evidence to support its impact on health outcomes. Healthcare managers frequently experience difficulties in day-to-day goal setting practice and can become weighed down by the understated complexity of the process. (Seijts & Latham, 2000)

In this paper I will present my goals for the next five years, assuming that I have been working as a facilities manager in healthcare sector for over ten years and this paper is my business plan of personal goals for the next five years as where I wanted to be in the next five years. In this paper I will set feasible personal goals for my business plan, in order to set directions for the study.

Goals Setting and Its Function

The goals are the objectives and measures used to direct efforts and assess the processes for identifying the degree of progress or improvement obtained. The establishment of group and personal goals are very effective performance management process as it promotes the credibility of the individuals and working groups. The goals are created from the needs of internal and external customers which should be fit in the main objectives of the organization as a whole. More than be a source of direction and checking of results achieved, the goals are used for the process of continuous improvement and measurement of productivity and efficiency. The goals are primary indicator that identifies where improvements are needed and of what magnitude. When the goals are met the positive results can be used to give feedback to other individuals or groups as a source of "best practices." This is the factor of motivation and recognition to the individual or group who obtained the achievement. (Thyberg, Skogh, Hass & Gerdle, 2005)
