Performance Tasks

The performance tasks have been developed by the teachers for each grade and level and also for different areas. They are used to measure the performance of students and make the teaching experience of the students relevant by involving real life examples such as real life issues and problems. These have been developed to carry out an assessment whether the students are capable of demonstrating the specific skills that that have been outlined in the course curriculum and whether they have the broader skills that are essential to pass the course. This method requires of the students to employ a higher level of thinking. Skills such as those of planning, analyzing, organizing, producing and communicating are very much required. These skills do not let the student stick merely to the memorizing facts but they go on to induce ion them the capability to develop critical thinking. This reflects the very requirement of practical life that concepts be understood by the students rather than memorized. Teachers are involved in the identification of criteria with which they are going to evaluate the students. Such an evaluation tool is often referred to as rubric.

Criteria for selection.

Criteria for judging merit (Paulson et.al, 2001).
