Introduction
The various studies have shown that the people who belong to the minor groups are more likely to be jobless than the majority. The situation in the United Kingdom is very dreadful as the unemployment rate for ethnic minorities is much higher than their white counterparts. The ethnic minorities include people from a foreign country or religion living in that country (Constant et al, 2009, 6). In 2010, the minority groups saw an increase in the unemployment rate by 10%. On further elaborating the statistics, it is found that the highest rise among the minority groups is seen by the black people where the increase in unemployment was over 48%. On the other hand, the Asians saw an increase by 33% (Elevations Networks Trust, 2012, 5).
The laws protect the minorities and state the law of equal employment opportunity which means that people of all the races or colours will be given an equal chance to apply for the position based upon his qualification. This will mean that any individual who belongs to any ethnicity will have an equal chance of getting that job.

The overall situation of the UK job market shows that the white men are far more likely to get a good job than any other ethnic group present in the country (Li & Heath, 2008, 241).
In this study, we will be examining why there is such a gap in the employment rate in between the locals and the ethnic minorities.
