People Management is one of the most important and emerging issues faced by managers today. The workforce today is more diverse than ever signifying disparate backgrounds and differing values and thus managing the workforce today comes with significant challenges. Furthermore, the legislations pertaining to the workforce or employees and the advancement of technology add greatly to the myriads of challenges already facing Human Resource managers. For instance, legislations such as Recovery Act 2009 and healthcare reform bill that was passed in the March of 2010 guaranteed immediate impact on the organizations and its people management practices. It is illustrated in the fact that Recovery Act mandated the employers to pay 65% for the insurance of their ex-employees who are entitled for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) COBRA benefits. Corporate world and the way it used to work is changing with the introduction of new labor laws, talent shortages, globalization, and shifting demographics. And it is expected that these changes will only accelerate in the wake of convergence of incongruent factors. Thus, if they are not addressed and managed properly in time, it would prove detrimental to the business performance and organizational well-being.
