This book of Ruth Benedict's is an anthropological study of culture of Japan. Benedict relied on interviews and previously written articles because she never went Japan. In her book she describe about Japanese culture, how Society of Japan is structured on hierarchically basis in which mobility of class is allow. Japanese believe that, every Japanese has a liability, which they have to pay back to the humanity; their society teach them to simply adjust to almost any kind of situation. In her book Benedict said, the real strength of people of Japan is that they have ability to convey their message in different ways.

Benedict describe in his book that peoples of Japan has potential to make themselves vital among economies of east, which seems to be truth today. Economy of Japan boomed after their remarkable achievements in the field of technology.

I believe that, Benedict's accomplish her goal by explaining the basics of Japanese culture in her book Chrysanthemum and the Sword. We can see that today culture of America is much different, if we study its culture decades ago but the facts Benedict describe in her book still applicable in modern Japan. Benedict has not tried to write history of Japan, she describe the fundamental of Japanese culture. Ruth Benedict has wonderfully describes social values and concepts, which portrait culture of Japan tremendously different from thought of other writers. Most of the people who have study this book value the message it carry because they help them in explaining the culture of Japan to people who live outside the Japan and this book can be classified as a excellent book among the nonfiction books. Americans study this book to analyses their opponents during Second World War. It is not possible for Benedict to live in Japan during war so she interviewed citizens of Japan which lived in America. Benedict had a command on cultural nuggets by which she derived her attractive and important work.

Anyone who wants to understand culture of Japan must read this book because it gives insight of Japanese culture in an honest way any describes the depth which Japanese culture has from all aspects including politics, economy and their traditions.
