Introduction

Patricia Benner studied clinical nursing in order to discover the knowledge contained in nursing practice, and to describe that is, knowledge that is gathered during a practice discipline in order to describe the difference between practical and theoretical knowledge. One of the first theoretical distinctions that Benner was referring to the theory itself Benner stated that development of knowledge in a practice discipline from the expansion of practical knowledge (know-how), by based on the theory of scientific studies and description of the existing "know-how '" exists, which was developed through clinical experience in the practice of this discipline. Benner noted that beyond the practical knowledge of the theory and can be precursors to scientific formulas. The nurses must develop the knowledge base of their practice and begin by scientific studies and observations to document the expertise of clinical knowledge and develop. Benner Experiences

Benner and Kramer examined the differences between nurses in specialist departments, and those who worked in ordinary hospital wards.1974 and 1975 she was a research consultant for a study of activity in which the usefulness and productivity of the nursing staff was identified. From 1978 to 1981 she was project director and author of a study funded with federal funds. As a result of this research were "From Novice to Expert" was published. Benner and Wrubel have explained the background of this study further and developed in the book "The Primacy of Caring: Stress and Coping in Health and illness" as an interpretive theory of nursing practice, which it employs to help patients, with the burden of ill one to be finished.
