Pathos argument paper

Introduction

'Pathos' is a rhetorical category that corresponds to the style, manner or way of expressing feelings, which characterized by emotional elevation, inspiration. There are multiple ways to accomplish an appeal that is emotional. One is through story telling or a metaphor. Another one is through a general passion in the delivery of expressions. Usually Pathos associated with emotions, but it is more complicated than simply emotions. A negative emotional connotation attached to the word 'Pathos' as it commonly associated with the verbs such as “to suffer” or “to feel pain” (Oele, Pp. 141).

In simple words Pathos portray a negative feeling. For instance, when a person suffers from a tragedy, he or she feels the pain inside which can relate to “Pathos.” The unpleasant feeling can be said to be Pathos as it is the unlikable emotion. These feelings are those, which a person never likes to face them. Those feelings which are negative, and reoccur in the mind of a person are not liked. Everyone tries his best to stay away from such unpleasant feelings.

When a person thinks too much negatively, he or she goes through a personality change in him. This is a negative effect of pathos. Due to a lot of negativity, person gets suspicious, and it affects his life. So pathos is not only a negative feeling, but it also affects one's personality.

I believe that Pathos depicts a negative feeling or an image or expressing negativity or negative emotion. As many researchers whether researching on effective speaking like Aristotle have linked pathos with an appeal to emotions that are negative like anger, guilt, shame and sadness.
