Etiology

Tricuspid regurgitation is most commonly caused by dilatation of the right ventricular and the tricuspid annulus. Right ventricular dilatation may result from any condition which directly involves the right ventricle or causes pulmonary hypertension and an elevation in right ventricular systolic pressure, leading to dilatation of the right ventricle and tricuspid annulus (Haematol, 2006, 357-65).
