Introduction

Over time, countless studies have been conducted to explore the intricacies of juvenile delinquency. The following paragraphs will attempt to summarize one such study. The research article titled 'The Family and Juvenile Delinquency' was published in Volume 23, Issue 3 of the Sociological Quarterly; by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The study was performed by Walter R. Gove and Robert D. Crutchfield. The discussion will attempt to highlight the fundamentals of the study through a summary based approach (Gove & Crutchfield, 2005). He following discussion will attempt to take a broad view of the article and highlight the characteristics of the research in the process of doing so.

Discussion

During a review of the article, it was observed that the researchers carried out the study in order to explore the manner in which juvenile delinquency is influenced by family-based variables. In order to do so, the researchers engaged in the identification of family-based factors before the execution of the research design (Gove & Crutchfield, 2005). This process was facilitated by an in depth literature analysis and a review of former studies that have been carried out in this area.

The researchers chose to move from the development of the context to the presentation of the literature analysis. The research design highlighted the demographic properties of the study sample whereas the subsequent section reviewed the manner in which the study design had been applied (Gove & Crutchfield, 2005).

It was observed during the review of the article that the researchers chose to give particular relevance to the control theory in an attempt to develop a clear comprehension of the manner in which family-based variables and juvenile delinquency relate to the child's attachment to the family.
