Pain as it relates to a client with Breast Cancer

Outline of the Study

Introduction

The diagnosis of Breast Cancer can have a major impact on the patient and her family. Just hearing the word 'cancer' causes many people to shudder. Fortunately, thanks to advances in modern medicine, Breast Cancer can now be controlled as well as the pain associated with Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer has become has become much more treatable in recent years with ever increasing survival rate. (Jemal, et al. 2008, 67)

Pain can be calssified as universal, complex and unique, there are different varities of this and they vary according to the person's sufferings. Pain in a client is a result of his own biological, psychological and racial circumstances. The concept of pain management is changing by the time and it has brought new modifications in it. It is not necessary that patients suffering from breast cancer may also face pain. If a person is suffering from pain, then it is very necessary for her that she should go for proper and aggressive treatment. A client's life become more relaxed and in leisure, when health care professionals treat them in a very careful way.

Pain prevention can be very important part of Breast Cancer treatment (Houn 1994 209). Chronic pain can weaken the body, leaving the body vulnerable to further problems. By controlling or eliminating pain, the clients' body will be enhanced. In some cases of Breast Cancer, it may be impossible to do anything about the underlying cause like in stage 4 Breast Cancer. In these instances, the pain itself, rather than the cause of the pain, is the most foremost concern. But the entire news is that, despite the cause of the pain, the client can still live an active and productive life. As a healthcare professional, we need to have a better understanding of clients' pain, its harmful effects, and more importantly know how to control pain, instead of letting client's pain control them.

This paper will focus on pain as it relates to Breast Cancer patients, their loved ones, physical pain crisis, psychological distress, financial constraints or pressure. I will also focus on pain assessment definition, types of pain, pharmacological and non pharmacological pain management and care given as some of the few challenging ways to alleviate pain to a tolerable state to elicit comfort and peace, and to conclude with some final thoughts on what the implications are for future clinical practice (Houn 1994 209). This paper discusses my experience of handling a patient with pain in breast cancer. She was 40 years old lady and was suffering from breast cancer. After her diagnosis, I came to know that she is suffering from constant and piercing pain. In this pain, she was concerned about the pain for a long time. It can be expressed from mild to moderate. This pain medication stopped by to be taken ...
