Outward Bound (OB) is an international non-profit, independent, outdoor education organization with about 40 schools around the world and 200,000 participants each year. Outward Bound programs aim to foster personal growth and social skills of the participants by using challenging expeditions in nature. This study will discuss where the Outward Bound program was founded? What are the activities and jobs that are involved in this program? And how does relate towards Outdoor Education?
Discussion and Analysis
Where the Outward Bound program was founded?
Outward Bound school program was launched or founded in Aberdovey, Wales in 1941 by Kurt Hahn, and Lawrence Holt with the support of the Blue Funnel Line. Outward Bound grew out of Hahn's work in the development of Gordonstoun School (McKenzie, 2000). Especially with the so-called Outward Bound courses Kurt Hahn wanted a hand to spread education and, on the other hand, creative execution of his educational ideas to contribute, as they gained in the boarding schools by long practical importance, but there could be effective for only a few teenagers. Special courses for young people aged between 16 and 21 years and (initially) four weeks' duration with educationally relevant experience and accented sporty nature of education and training programs are designed in outward bound (American Camp Association, 2006).
What are the activities and jobs that are involved in this program?
Outward Bound is a term from the English sea: a ship can - equipped and ready to ride great - expire. This picture was taken by Kurt transfer valve at the suggestion of an English ship-owner in the education, the young man who has brought his childhood behind and on the threshold of adulthood is to be prepared for an active and responsible lifestyle - just on his "journey to life” (Strauss & Corbin, 1998).
