CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background

Different pathological processes can cause Progressive deficit of knee function, with implications directly on the quality of life of the sufferer. The knee replacement has been established for the joint deficit advanced as a procedure that provides in physical function and significant relief and persistent pain and influences and therefore positively quality of life related to health. (Bachmeier 2008, 137)

In case of persistent pain, no stiffness associated, it is again seeking an infection of the prosthesis with low noise will be performed first by a thorough review. Infection is the leading cause of unexplained pain. Patellar pain represents 4-12% causes of revisions of total prostheses knee in the published series. The appreciation of patient and the choice of the implant have a very Preoperative important to prevent this complication. Factors prognostic Ticks associated with adverse patient found obesity, osteoporosis, a distortion of the axis mechanical valgus, previous surgery at the knee (proximal tibial osteotomy in particular), a post-traumatic osteoarthritis, or recurrent patellar dislocation

Rationale

Bearing in mind the aspects mentioned were determining the following key points for implementation of a total knee replacement: Get the highest degree of improvement in function and quality of life associated with avoiding the occurrence of complications, and care and control re- courses in both scientific and economic available. In conclusion should point to a clinical process that achieves give our patients the best possible results generating for paying the lowest possible cost so that a rational use of resources available.

Aim

Uni-compartmental knee replacement/ total knee replacement is carried out for the severe osteoarthritis of the knee joint when conservative methods are failed and the patient have severe pain and disability and are not able to carried out their every day routine work. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcome of uni-compartmental knee replacement and improvement in patient's mobility and pain relief after the procedure, and also to look into the their level of satisfaction with the outcome

After reviewing the literature search it is found out that no study is carried out in this region which specifically looks into the patient's satisfaction and outcome of the procedure. This study might help to understand the patient's expectation from the procedure and the actual outcome from it. And also their suggestions to improve the post operative care which in turn ...
