Osseo Integrated Implants

Introduction

Thirty years ago, the surgeon and researcher at the Swedish PI Branemark discovered the phenomenon of osseointegration, or the direct connection between vital bone and the surface of a pure titanium implant. Using a two-stage surgical intervention and a traumatic technique, proved that this connection between bone and titanium is able to give a stable and lasting, which can be used to support dental implants and facial orthopaedics. Before the advent of this technique, dental implants were characterized by inconsistent results and frequently had to be removed within five years. Since 1965, thousands of patients have been treated successfully, first in Sweden and then in the rest of the world, using osseointegrated implants. This method was introduced in Italy for the first time in 1984.

Discussion

Dental osseointegrated implants are also very useful when the patient has accidentally broken a tooth and has to be extracted, it is best to place an implant followed by extraction, this procedure prevents bone loss (gums) which harms the aesthetics and function rehabilitation, while maintaining biological stability. Sometimes it will be necessary, bone loss; bone grafts place and wait a few months before placing the implant.

Implants are the treatment of advanced dentistry with scientific evidence, as it ensures a success rate of over 90%, offering treatments safe, comfortable and reliable. Implants enhance dental aesthetics in many cases and prevent damage to teeth, among other advantages. As a tip, be very careful with those procedures and too massive economic, as to offer to those prices could make use of surface analysis and unreliable elements, complicating even more the case to try and lead the patient to treatment complicated, expensive and poor prognosis.

Success rate of osseointegrated implants

Characterized by osseointegration implant techniques have a high success rate (> 90%). The high percentage of long-term success is subject to compliance with an adequate program of periodic (annual) associated with sessions (six months) and hygiene removal of tartar. The international studies have shown that heavy smokers (more than 20 cigarettes a day) have lower success rates (75-80%).

Criteria for Measuring Success for Osseo-integrated Implants in Dentistry

The clinical and radiographic follow-up examinations were performed at the time of definitive prosthetic treatment, after three months, six months, one, two and three years. The average rate of the implants at the time of implant exposure was 15 months. Clinical follow-up: At each follow-up appointment were removed the superstructure with the exception of the cement-retained single crowns by a single examiner and included the following clinical parameters using a standardized follow-up sheet:

A) Inflammatory peri-implant changes or any peri-implant Pusaustritt were visually assessed at four surfaces of the implant (mesial, distal, buccal and lingual or palatal), was

B) The probing depth of each implant with the aid of a periodontal probe with millimetres scale determined at four surfaces (mesial, distal, buccal and lingual or palatal),

C) Using two mirror handles the implant motility was assessed manually and instrumental (moving / not ...
