Introduction

Stress no matter in what circumstance places special physical and psychological demands on and individual that result in situation which is unexpected or unusual. Stress creates a negative impact on human's mental and physical well-being. Stress in organizations is a phenomenon that has been studied to determine its consequences at the work place over employees' productivity (Leviticus, 2012). The main reason today that has been found for increase in absenteeism of employees is considered to be stress at workplace. Employees find it difficult to manage the work load and thus this poses a negative impact on health and well-being of the employee. According to a research conducted by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health from around 20 to 40 percent of the employees who were surveyed stated that they found their work to be very stressful. The statistics in other countries like Japan are even higher. The results of the same survey showed that in European Union around 28 percent of the workers found their work to be stressful (Dahl, 2010).

Stress creates an impact on worker's health it would result in increased absenteeism and hence poor health of employees will effect negatively to the performance of the organization. It is important for management to understand the significance of their employee's health towards achieving organizational goals successfully. Since this increased rate of absenteeism would cost the firm a lot. Therefore it is important to manage stress at organizations, since in a research in Netherland it was found out that 30% of the disabilities amongst people were as a result of increased stress at work place (Dahl, 2012). Since stress also results in disabilities companies will eventually lose some of their most productive workers thus they need to ensure that employees are not stressed at the work place. They should be provided with good working environment and working conditions, simultaneously they should be allowed flexible work timings for being able to manage their work and job effectively (Jex, 2002).
