Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to go through the booklet named “Nickel and Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich and choose different events and experiences for analyzing them. The paper makes discussion on the theories and concepts explored.

Nickel and Dimed has been a very successful book written by Barbara Ehrenreich. The book got immense success even by the low-wage workers. In this book, the author has covered the problems and issues of all people. In this book, the author has made discussion on the concept of poverty. In this book, Barbara has talked about the hardships of the poop people earning very low wages. She made a monumental struggle on getting comprehensive knowledge about the problems and issue of low wages people (Ehrenreich, 2002, p. 8).

Events and Experiences

The first event that interests me in this book is when the author went out to find the home on rent. It was a nice event and experience. I liked the way in which the author has described his experience of going out in search of home. According to the author, it was difficult for her to find a home that is affordable for her (Ehrenreich, 2002, p. 8). Therefore, he decided to compromise on the area, and decided to take part in the place which was quite far from the city.

Another experience that interests me in this book is that the author had to live in such an environment that she could not even $7 per day. She wanted to experience the life of the modest wage people, and get the complete knowledge about their standard of living. She mentioned that she is an experimental scientist, and want to experience each and every thing before discussing it (Ehrenreich, 2002, p. 8).

The third experience relates to the different problems in the organisational structure. He said that there were many problems in the structure of the organisation, and it was difficult to resolve all these problems in a very short period of time. The author mentioned that there were also some problems related to the organisational routines (McAuley, 2006, p. 3). Work routines, or more specifically organisational routines, got understood to exist in all organisations regardless of industry. They got presumed to function in for-profit, as well as not-for-profit endeavours, and in all operational areas within those organisations. At the most rudimentary level, organisational routines provide a means for the division of labour to perform the work and coordinate activities. Organisational routines are practices that allow processes to produce results and organisations to accomplish tasks to achieve their mission and goals.
