The problem of the CEUPU process is that there are too many steps and people involved in the process. Operations Management is the function of managing the operating core of an organization: the activities associated with creation, production, distribution and delivery of the organization's goods and services. The Operations Management Group seeks to provide Indian organizations the knowledge base relating to this operating core, to help them become domestically and internationally competitive. Specifically, the group works on identifying, developing, documenting, interpreting for practice, and disseminating innovative approaches in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management. These approaches are based on model-based research and synthesis of best practices from around the world (Bhadur, 2008). The group aims to do the following:

Educating and training committed professionals for Operations Management practice

Undertaking research and consulting studies on issues of significance in Operations Management

Motivating and preparing professionals for academic/ research careers in Operations Management

Towards fulfilling the above aims, the group has been offering a well-subscribed concentration area in Operations Management in the Post-Graduate Programme for the last several years. The group has also conducted several Management Development Programmes and has been engaged in consulting/ research projects in the area.

The XIII Directorate of the European Union has a Central Evaluation Unit (CEU) which is tasked with evaluation of applications for grants from academics under its “cooperation and foundations” scheme. This scheme distributed relatively small grants to fund cooperative research between universities in the EU. All applications were sent to the CEU's processing unit (CEUPU) by university liaison officers (ULOs) who are based in around 150 universities.
