Introduction

Greek tragedies have characteristic features of projecting and conveying the climax moments in a messenger speech. The same happens in the popular drama Oedipus Greek. This paper sees the advantages and disadvantages associated with this convention in order to assess how effectively these messenger speeches reinforces the climax of Greek tragedies and dramas. An investigation of the conventions that direct and create a relation between the spoken words and the actions of Greek characters, shows that such a conventional style of presenting the climax in the form of a conversation may provoke passivity among readers.
