Obesity and Weight Reduction: Outline

Obesity and Weight Reduction: Outline

Introduction

Statement of the Problem

Obesity is a serious public health issue causing increasing morbidity and mortality rates amongst the Canadian youth. The obesity epidemic is a multifaceted problem causing health problems like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and social and personal problems like poor self esteem and social stigma. The paper will determine the various healthcare interventions and their efficacies in controlling and managing the obesity epidemic amongst the youth.

Definition of Terms

Body Mass Index (BMI) : Indicator used to measure and classify body weights as per pre-determined standards. A person with BMI> 30 kg/m falls under the benchmark set for obesity.

Overweight: State of the individual whose weight exceeds the normal limit

Weight loss: Decrease in weight due to voluntary or involuntary actions in the body.

Theoretical Framework

The theorical framework for the study will determine the variables (obesity management interventions and their efficacies) used in the study. The researcher will classify the outcomes of these interventions as either primary or intermediate. These outcomes will then have to determine their effects on the obesity-related clinical outcomes. Data will primarily be generated from the health records of school-based and college-based populace. Specifically, health data related to students will form part of the research's analysis.

Methodology

This part primarily focuses on the research design. Research methods will provide a broader view about the categories of research. This part will also determine the data collection method, source of data, designing of the questionnaire and research techniques developed to bring out objectives of the research. The research is secondary in nature. Secondary research uses existing data and literature to draw on conclusive findings coming from empirically set literature gaps.

Hypothesis

Lifestyle modifications and effective patient education amongst the obese youth will reduce obesity rates amongst the youth

Review of Related Literature

This part will be split into different sections depending on the nature of information each chapter will be bearing. This part will examine what is already known under the topic of obesity control interventions. Some of the sources are listed in the references page part of this outline, which are intended to offer insights on the subject of research. Gaps will be identified in the existing literature and theories, and from such gaps, hypotheses will be developed. Hypotheses will be used to develop a theoretical framework on which the research will be built. All the hypotheses will be drawn from the literature. For the purpose ...
