Purpose

Purpose of this phase 2 paper is to elaborate the paper submitted in phase 1. This would further explain the nursing practice, elaborate the missing in phase one. It would also help to analyze the nursing practice in detail and provide new perspectives. The theme of the paper is outlined by using Carper's ways of knowing and method of CNO learning.

CNO Learning

To understand what is nursing, what values guide the profession and the nature of their philosophical foundations for practice requires a broad field of knowledge emanates from the humanistic and scientific perspectives. The interpretation of ethical knowledge can be made in the light of the foundation philosophical practice. Carper identified four patterns or forms of knowledge which should be evident in nursing practice: empirical, personal, ethical and aesthetic (Alty 1997, 786).

Situation of Phase 1

The situation discussed in phase 1 is related to the profession of nursing. The profession of nurses demands huge responsibility, care and awareness. But despite the fact that jobs of nurses require so much hard work and dedication, their profession is not given the same recognition. The nursing profession is underestimated to the limit of cleaning the rooms and changing the beds. The situation in phase 1 discussed the problems faced by nurses when their jobs, roles and responsibilities are mistaken and undervalued.

Summary of Phase 1

Paper of phase 1 starts with the introduction where nursing is viewed as a degree dedicated to helping patients and individuals. Nursing provides care in all aspects of life. Discussion covers the general view of the public with regards to the profession of nursing is covered. Nursing is said to be the profession of responsibility and autonomy. Nursing is a profession with much greater responsibility than patient's care and comfort. Past events of the general public's view are discussed under the head of background. People just consider the profession as doctor's assistant. Though, nursing is much more than this. It encompasses all the duties and responsibilities related to patient's care and comfort till the patient gets well. After this, personal and rationale view is discussed related to the nursing profession. Conclusion covers the importance of nursing as a profession and its recent developments.

Ethical Approach of the situation of phase one

My approach was ethical towards the situation. Ethics is defined as a systemic approach based on moral principles which can underpin practice and assist the practitioner to act in a manner that fulfils the obligation to their patients. Ethics looks out how the nurse's actions match with her beliefs while handling patients. Ethics is associated with moral decision-making which focuses on what ought to be done in the given situation. My approach was ethical because I had to show optimism and create a positive energy in the patient's beliefs. I had the responsibility of improving his health and situation.
