CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Nursing is the science of caring for the health of human beings. It also receives the name the profession, based on science that is devoted primarily to diagnosis and treatment of health problems or potential. The field of medicine and nursing has become an essential component of the humanity these days. It has been adopted by many ladies as it aims to give due care and attention to the individuals in the society.

1.1 Outline of the Study

The unique approach of nursing focuses on the study of the response of individual or group to a real health problem or potential. It also looks at the problem from another perspective, in addition to or substitution of the need of every human being to take care of itself from the views of bio psychosocial and holistic. The critical thinking is based on the merits of questions and challenges facing a complex situation and how to deal with this situation.

The thesis based on this proposal will discuss the profession of nursing with regards to the aspect of answering the question whether the nurse to patient ratio has an impact on the medication errors in acute care settings or not. In order to provide a structure to the study, the exploration will be guided through the use of research methodologies, the collection of data through quasi-experimental research and the interpretation of the results. It will undertake to examine the dependant and independent variables which are responsible for the operational and conceptual aspect of the report. The research report will further elaborate upon the various conditions that could affect medication errors which might occur due to the existing nurse to patient ratio.

1.2 Background of the Research

The research study at hand will study and present the medication errors which might occur as a result of the nurse to patient ratio. It will further facilitate the reader to have a clear idea regarding the problems that might occur in the field of nursing profession due to under- or over- balanced ratio of nurse to patient. A proper research beneficial to the study will be carried out and illustrated in a legible manner.
