The Aims of Research

The aims of this research are to present and elaborate the information regarding the nursing profession in the United Kingdom. The study being conducted has been designed to be an effective contributor towards the preparation of the final dissertation report. The objectives of this academic research are to enable the reader to understand the prescriptions and the boundaries of the nursing profession which has been prevailing in the UK since last many centuries.

Literature Review

This section consists of the background, history and main prescriptions and boundaries of nursing. This detail will give the sophisticated information regarding the limitations, scope and standards of nursing.

Nursing is the science of caring for the health of human beings. It also receives the name the profession, based on science that is devoted primarily to diagnosis and treatment of health problems or potential. The nurse's unique approach focuses on the study of the response of the individual or group to a real health problem or potential, from another perspective, in addition to or substitution of the need of every human being to take care of itself from the views involving bio psychosocial and holistic considerations . Nurse critical thinking is based on the merits of questions and challenges facing a complex situation and how to deal with this situation (Waters, 79-92).

Concepts of Nursing

Nursing also is a professional degree which the different universities have dedicated to comprehensive care for individuals, families and the community at all stages of life cycle and development processes. In United Kingdom, Spain and Colombia, there is another profession in nursing whose duties complement the work of nurses. There are the care technicians called nursing assistants, also known as a nursing assistant.

According to the International Council of Nurses, nursing is defined as encompassing autonomous and collaborative, which is provided to people of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or healthy, in all contexts, including health promotion, disease prevention, and care of the sick, disabled and dying people. Essential functions of nursing are the promotion, including the promoting of a safe environment, research, participation in health policy and management of patients and health systems, and training (Peter & Morgan, 3-10).

American Nurses Association says since 1980 in a document entitled "Nursing: A Social Policy Statement" that nursing is "The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to health problems or potential." The above definition has been extended or adapted as proposed by the School of Nursing at the University of Moscow. In Russian institutions, the nursing is described as "the science or discipline that deals with the study of actual and potential responses of the individual, family or community as healthy as sick in the biological, psychological, social and spiritual.” (American Nurses Association, 2001).
