Introduction

New technologies are often introduced in organizational workplaces that are sometimes complicated and demand for extensive training. As an outcome, a strong resistance and opposition from potential users is witnessed. Therefore, before making a decision on the introduction of any specific technology into your business, discussing with employees and spotting out problems will make the transition much easier. (Freeman, 2005) Those affected should also understand and realize how this change will assist them in the long run. For gaining acceptance from the workers, it is important that the issues should be clearly presented to them. And in this case, a very well planned introduction founded on a mutual effort has the finest chances for success.

Discussion

When organizations are looking for plans to cut costs, the most common solution they come across is to introduce a new technology to boost efficiency and reduce labor expenses. This can lead to workers feeling concerned about the change and several can be resistant to access the new technology as well.

With context to the restaurant case where a computer was installed as a point of sale terminal in the customer service area to help the restaurant staff i.e. the waiters and the cooks in their regular job responsibilities, we get to know that since the technology consulting firm did not assess the skills of the staff and no proper training was provided to them, therefore, the new technology oriented system eventually failed and the productivity of the organization also declined. And this all happened due to the inappropriate and counterfactual way of technology implementation. (Dooley, 2000)
