Introduction

In the last decade, Leeds has experienced a positive development and is even experiencing a tremendous growth in various sectors. The city, now labelled as a boomtown because of the rapid growth it has experienced over the last few years. There are several people in UK who consider Leeds as one of their favourite cities. However, there is a need to the importance of the key sectors that are prevailing in the city. The key sectors include health, education, public service, law and order situation, telecommunication etc. The objective in this task includes is to assess the position of these sectors in the two postcodes known as LS8 and LS14. There is a need to cover the entire issues related to the demographics of the city. The most vital sector is the healthcare sector because there is a huge demand for quality healthcare services in the city. The second sector that is valued highly by the people is law and order services. Though, these sectors have experienced considerable improvement over the last few years, but the further scope of these sectors needs further assessment to discuss the future state of these sectors. Therefore, all issues related to the demographics of LS8 and L14 will be discussed in detail.

Information about Leeds City

The city known as Leeds, located in the county of West Yorkshire, on the eastern side of the Pennine Hills. Leeds has a population of more than 700,000 and is the main administrative, financial, retail and cultural centre for the wider Yorkshire region, the area east of the Pennines, north of the Humber estuary and south of the North York Moors. Leeds became important in the second half of the nineteenth century as a manufacturing and financial centre for the wool trade and an industrial centre. Although these industries subsequently declined, others have taken their place. Today, Leeds is the largest centre for business, legal and financial services in the UK outside London. Leeds has also served as a transport hub for the entire region, with canals, roads and, later, railways converging on the city. Today, the city has excellent rail links and situated at the intersection of two main motorways: the Ml, which runs north-south across England, and the M62, which runs east-west across the Pennines (Auletta, 1982, 25).

The CBD is the most desirable area in which to have shops and offices. Land is scarce and so is very expensive. This means that developers try to pack as much floor space as they can onto any plot. They build upward so that they can increase floor space and make as much profit as possible. People can clearly see multi storey blocks dominating the CBD's skyline. The retailing area is located at the point that gives maximum accessibility for people who live in the suburbs and towns and villages beyond the city.
