The natural sciences, especially physics, are often referred to as "hard science" because of the extensive use of objective and quantitative methodologies. In contrast, the social sciences rely more on qualitative assessments and therefore tend to be less certain conclusions.( Parkin 2001) The study of humans in the social sciences are hampered both by the complexity of man and the growing trend towards non-scientific bias when studying human beings, as opposed to, say, rocks.
