NAMI of Greater Chicago's past files truly commences in September of 1976, when the Huxley Institute sponsored a lecture on schizophrenia. A stranger from the north suburbs enquired about forming a gathering of parents afraid about mental disease and a sheet of paper was passed. Twelve fascinated people signed that paper.
