Abstract

In this study, we try to explore the concept of Myers-Briggs Personality Test in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on Myers-Briggs Personality Test and its types and indicators. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test designed to help a person to identify some of your most important personal preferences. The indicator tries to establish the order in which this occurs in every person, and this information is combined with interviews with other people who have had the same preferences, which are based in the descriptions of the types. The research also analyzes many aspects of Myers-Briggs Personality Test and tries to gauge its effect on personality types.

Introduction

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test designed to help a person to identify some of your most important personal preferences. The indicator was developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers during World War II, and the basis of the theories that respond to Carl Gustav Jung proposed in his work Psychological Types. The indicator is often used in fields such as pedagogy, group dynamics, staff training, and development of leadership skills, marriage counseling and personal development. Some academic psychologists have criticized the indicator in the literature, arguing that "there are insufficient data to support it" and that it is an example of the Forer effect (Wood, 2004, 90). The indicator is different from other standardized tests and other measurement parameters, such as intelligence that does not measure a feature, but classifies the types of preferences of people. According to the Myers-Briggs theory, while the types and parameters are innate, the parameters can be improved similarly to the skills, whereas types, if the individual is in a healthy environment, shall be laid naturally with the passage of time.

The indicator tries to establish the order in which this occurs in every person, and this information is combined with interviews with other people who have had the same preferences, which are based in the descriptions of the types. Thus, the indicator is similar to an arrow point in trying to address the appropriate description. There is much debate about the aspect of the theory that defines the characteristics that are classified is types, and parameters that can be improved with practice (Jung, 1971, 56). However, supporters of the indicator explained that learning about the innate characteristics is both creating opportunities to improve how a person applies them in different contexts. In this sense, the MBTI can generate significant changes and personal growth.
