It took me many years to realize the extraordinary influence my mother has had on my life. From an outsider's perspective, she might appear to be just another ordinary working-class woman. These is little in her dress, clothing or position to distingush her from other divorced mothers in town. Yet her modest possessions and demeanor are a sharp contrast to the extraordinary gifts and wisdom my mother possesses. A role model plays a significant role in everybody's day-to-day life. But what are role models? They are individuals who are emulated by others due to their possession of a particular behavior or social status. They influence us to become who we currently are and who we will become. I have three role models in my life my mom (single parent), my husband (military veteran), my first supervisor in the military.
Role models are chosen due to our own attraction to the behavioral traits or social ranks they possess, that we want to obtain. They are individuals who make us say “I want to be like them.” A large majority of parents, as well as other family members, are adopted as role models for many young children. They mimic the movements and expressions of the one they idolize to become just like them. The role models for these young children set positive examples for them to follow and teach them how to make optimistic choices further on in life. I believe having a role model encourages people to strive for their goals and increase their confidence, as well as allowing them to improve upon themselves and alternate any personal faults they are unsatisfied with. Having a role model will defiantly be beneficial in life and allow individuals to flourish into a better person.
