Discussion

The Wars in Middle East and Afghanistan have been U.S. Army's greatest challenge since the Vietnam War. These Wars brought with them requirements that the Army was in many ways not prepared to meet. Such has been the requirements of the Middle East that every aspect of the way our Army conducts their business, even on a daily basis, has been affected (Kaufman 2005). The almost eight years of conflict has transformed how the Army fights its battles, trains and equips its Soldiers, and educates its future leaders. Even the role and education of the military spouse has been transformed to prepare them to meet the challenge that they will have to face when their love ones are deployed in the combat zone of Middle East. Therefore one of the legacies of the Middle East will be that the way the Army used to do business was insufficient to meet the threats of the future and therefore resulted in a radical transformation of momentous proportions (Schoenbaum 2003).

7 years of war in Iraq and, the debate about the direction of Army transformation is most intense. According to Rumsfeld's strategic vision, the Army must be eliminated heavy equipment, and take the light of the development. To this end, the U.S. military abandoned 70 tons of heavy equipment like M1A1 tanks, instead relied on as the "Hummer", "Stryker" This easy-to-rapid deployment, battlefield mobility is a strong light vehicles. In recent years, the U.S. Army proposed a "more convenient light forces operations," the transformation of ideas, an attempt to rely on its strong technology support, helping to create a light and flexible, able to battle a new enemy ground forces quickly (Quandt 2003).
