Every writer, author and poet holds his or her pen to express what he feels and thinks. With the help of words writers and poets express their ideas, notions, philosophy and thoughts. So, we can say that any piece of work of any writer or poet is a sort of reflection of his or her personality and idealization. Here, in this paper I would discuss what Shakespeare's play “Much ado about nothing” reflects. The general opinion is that this play reflects gender stereotyping. In this paper I would discuss what I think about this play and Shakespeare's work.

William Shakespeare was an eminent and prolific writer and poet. He possesses a renowned name in the history of English literature. His contribution in the form of his writing is itself an honour for English language. He had written scores of plays and poems. He never restricted himself to any one topic. He had shown his creativity and innovative ideas in every field. He had written on romance, comedy, murder, enviousness, history and even magic. Much ado about nothing is the classical work of Shakespeare. In this play he took the support of comic and humor to grab people's attention towards the some serious issues like deceiving people and gender stereotyping. (Chambers, 1972).

Synopsis of the play:

Much ado about nothing is a tale of different people having close acquaintances with each other. It's a story where two people fall in love with each other while others out of enviousness try to apart these two lovers by creating misunderstanding. On the other hand there are two other characters in the play who don't want to confess their love for each other and they want to remain bachelors for their lifetime. But destiny plays its role to bring first pair together and urging other pair to confess love for each other. (Evans, 1960).

Statement:

I agree with the statement that the play “Much ado about nothing” displays gender stereotyping. After knowing the whole tale of “Much ado about nothing” One thing can easily be declared that this play displays gender biasness. Whether this play shows biasness towards man or woman can be a debate but one thing that one can say surely say that it's a gender biased play. In my opinion the story of this play does not show woman as an inferior creature.

Discussion:

Basically gender stereotyping means thinking and possessing a particular image about a gender. People may become gender stereotype because of the settings in which they live possess certain particular images of gender or they can be gender stereotype because of their personal experiences.
