When Mount Hope opened in the early 1800's, it was primarily intended as a burial place. However, the cemetery was also a place for people to go enjoy the beauty of nature. The roads are winding, with captivating views just around the bend. There are geological kettles which were formed by glaciers as well. The beauty of the landscape helps take away from the eerie feeling that some people have when they enter into a cemetery. The stones age back quite a bit, leaving a lot of history to tell those who pass by.
