Abstract

This paper discusses the topic of Motivation for becoming vegetarian. Moreover, in this paper it has been discussed that surveys, studies and researches are carried out to find the factors that differentiate between a motivated consistent vegetarian and an inconsistent one. Some people believe that it is their religious beliefs that motivates them to avoid the consumption of meat while others belief that it is unethical to eat or consume food by killing animals. As to the reasons of a purely ethical and moral, the term vegetarianism is configured as a synecdoche for various forms of eating habit choices motivated by ethical and philosophical values often inspired by nonviolence , pacifism and animal rights. Further, in this paper, different motivations behind becoming a vegetarian and how successful they are, is identified.

INTRODUCTION

Vegetarianism is one diet of the people referred to in the consumption of meat and fish is deliberately avoided. Some forms of vegetarianism also rule out foods that are produced from animals, such as eggs, dairy products or honey. Some people take vegetarianism as a part of diet. Others take on vegetarianism as an alternative way of life, making it an ideological concept and program or build it in such a. This usually involves an increased health or striving to ethical ideals. The percentage of vegetarians in the total population is in the Western world typically in single digits. For India, it is estimated that about 40% of the population live on vegetarian.

This paper will focus on the parameters which motivates a person to become a consistent vegetarian. For this reason, a good understanding of a vegetarian is also necessary. People have different motives for becoming vegetarian. The main motive behind becoming a vegetarian is the religious, ethical and societal factors that mold the perception of an individual to become vegetarian.

DISCUSSION

Different people adopt different types of vegetarianism. Some do not have any motives, though they become vegetarian just to express their behavior. In such cases only, dietary habits need to be focused and controlled. This does not mean that most vegetarians do not have beliefs and they do not have any motives, different vegetarians follow have different beliefs and motives. Such, vegetarians have strong beliefs which reflect in their day to day life tasks and not only in their dietary habits.

Many people believe that a vegetarian is one who does not take direct meat products such as crustaceans, fish and meat, while others may think that a vegetarian must not consume other animal products such as coagulants, gelatin, dairy products, eggs and honey.
