Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Monitoring Employees” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “Monitoring Employees” and its relation with “Employee Performance”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “behaviors of employees under monitoring conditions” and tries to gauge its effect on “employee motivation and workability”. Finally the research describes various factors which are necessary for “Monitoring Employees” and tries to describe the overall effect of “Monitoring Employees” on “employee retention”.

Introduction

Although companies invest millions of dollars onto their employees to improve their lifestyle, keeping an eye on the people working within the organization is extremely important in order for ensuring effective business transactions. Monitoring is defined as the tool or technique of speculation or investigation that keeps track of items and units such as food, stationary, money or even business dealings that would be stolen through portals in call centers, online business transactions, etc. Monitoring is extremely important, since in today's modern world, security and safety of data and valuable information is extremely crucial, in order to businesses to proceed.

For this paper, our research statement shall be the “Impact of Monitoring on employees in the workplace.'

Research Aims and Objectives

The core aims and objectives are:

To explore different electronic means through which employers practice monitoring of employees;

To determine what are scores of pros and cons of electronic monitoring; and

To reveal what are the various alternative strategies or options available to employers to deal with the issue.

Discussion

Monitoring implies checking, scrutinizing and keeping a keen eye upon the working of employees during their time spent in the organization. Employers today make extensive use of technology to check and monitor employee behavior and how much time they give to their work and how much time they spend sit idle (Cozzetto & Pedeliski, 2007). New, improved and advanced technologies are hitting the market everyday making privacy a crucial issue. In the presence of such technologies extensively used by the employers nowadays, it is hard for employees to keep everything in secret and to completely protect their privacy. One of the most important reasons to maintain monitoring is to create a sense of confidentiality and maintaining a fine line that no employee working in the organization or that any external force would be unable to harm the business operations or internal occurrences happening in the organization. Now to come to discussion, there are several forms of monitoring that people have maintained with reference to their organizational perspectives. These are:

Cell Phones Monitoring, which suggests keep a check of all calls (incoming and outgoing) and keep an eye on the calls made by the employee for any flaw that may occur otherwise.
