Microbial growth

When microorganisms are grown in a suitable culture medium, they start to divide actively using nutrient that contributes to the culture medium "produce" new microorganisms. This process continues until a nutrient culture medium is exhausted (limiting substrate) and growth stops. Growth can also be stopped by any accumulation of inhibitory substance formed by the same organisms, but for now assume that this is not the case and that the first alternative is valid.
