Mesothelioma

Introduction

Mesothelioma is a rare tumor originating from cells of the Inter-zoteliya. As a rule, find in the pleura and peritoneum, at least - in the testis and joints. It grows as a thick layer covering the internal organs, which are made up of spindle-shaped cells and fibrous tissue. Mesothelioma of the peritoneum, occurs more often in men older than 50 years and is usually associated with asbestos exposure and manifested an increase in the abdomen, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and weight loss.

Diagnosis establishes the detection of malignant cells in fluid and biopsy samples obtained during paracentesis, biopsy or laparotomy. Treatment of localized forms of Mesothelioma, we lay in its radical surgical removal, in diffuse forms of surgical treatment is not indicated, use radiation or chemotherapy, or a combination thereof.

Mesothelioma is a rare tumor that usually occurs in men after age 50. Each year, revealed 2-3 thousand new cases. Tumor for a long time may be asymptomatic and therefore often detected in late stages, which negatively influences the prognosis (outcome) of the disease. The average survival is usually only 1-2 years (Sugarbaker, Jaklitsch & Bueno, 138-146). Most people who develop Mesothelioma get this cancer through breathing in asbestos fibers or exposed to asbestos dust while at work. There are many reported issues of Mesothelioma and other lung diseases, which have a close link with asbestos (Richards, Zellos, Bueno, Jaklitsch, Janne, Chirieac & Sugarbaker, 1561-7). Mesothelioma is a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problem for modern medicine due to the fact that clinical diagnosis is often delayed. Apart from that, the earlier symptoms are much related to common lung issues like coughing and shortness of breaths, which are mostly considered to be mild breathing problems to which a person does not give much attention. These minor problems then turn into dangerous diseases like Mesothelioma, which can be fatal if not dealt with properly. (Roggli, Sharma, Butnor, Sporn & Vollmer, 55-65).

Another characteristic of Mesothelioma is a large variation in radiological image and a microscopic image of similarity to other malignancies, particularly adenocarcinoma. The settlement is histo-pathological and immune-histochemical examination of material collected by thoracoscopy (Sugarbaker, Jaklitsch & Bueno, 138-146). Although the markers used are becoming more sensitive, not yet identified specific antibody exclusively for pleural Mesothelioma, therefore, its differentiation is still creating difficulties.

Mesothelial cells lining the inside chest and abdominal cavities is adversely affected by the disease. These cells also line the surface of most internal organs. Tissue formed by mesothelial cells is Mesothelium. Mesotelium chest called the pleura, the abdominal cavity - and the peritoneum cavity of the heart - the pericardium. Tumors of the mesothelium are benign or malignant, and usually there are malignant tumors is Mesothelioma (Richards, Zellos, Bueno, Jaklitsch, Janne, Chirieac & Sugarbaker, 1561-7). Figure 2 and 3 below show a microscopic view of distorted cells caused by the lung cancer Mesothelioma.
