Importance of Mentoring and Counseling At Work and In the Home

Introduction

Mentoring becomes a buzzword for media, community organizations, private organizations, public and parastatal devoted to entrepreneurship development follow suit noting that mentoring should be formally organized, scheduled as it is an effective mode of development, learning and management of human resource. The goal for most of the time working life, and, according to the organization, is sometimes the succession management, workforce development, career planning, consolidation of the company, the integration of new professionals, etc. the linear careers, without transition or movement, for all practical purposes, no longer exist; mentoring is seen as a welcome addition to meet the diverse needs of individuals and organizations, and this throughout their professional lives. (Roper, Prouska and Uracha, 2010)

The importance of mentoring has changed in its history. Although not a universal definition of mentoring exists today can identify some key aspects of mentoring relationships:

The core of any mentoring the so-called one-to-one relationship is: mentoring is a process in which a person supports another. The mentor helps the development of another person “the mentee” outside the normal superior-subordinate relationship. Mentoring is a protected relationship in which learning and experimentation, potential skills and new skills can be developed. Mentoring also means bringing a person for best performance by the experiences of mentors and their own experience makes available. As Janasz and Schneider (2009) and Mullins (2005) report, all successful managers with a mentor, the crucial functions were perceived in their career development. Mentoring is not age-dependent, although the mentees typically younger than their mentors. The key roles include mentoring are:

Coaching: the mentor as a "coach" and is actively encouraging the mentee to develop important skills and attitudes for the future.

Guides: The mentor will be the mentee in solving problems and make difficult decisions in the side.

Familiar as it helps the mentee to think in larger contexts.

Help: paving the way mentor. This may be the simple sharing of a phone number or the introduction of the mentee at crucial career people. It opens up their contacts to enable the mentee to pursue their goals.

Networking: The mentor as a networker teaches the mentee the informal contacts outside their own working relationship to use. (Wilson, 2008)

Thus, Mentor of the 21st century repeated the story of Ulysses instructs his friend as mentor to educate and take care of his son Telemachus, now there are the same fundamental characteristics, a senior supports and educates a mentee. Mentoring brings the values and practices focused on continuing education, intergenerational links and the transmission of knowledge through a link preference between two people. Here are few key definitions that explain the concept of mentoring. The words chosen are mentoring, the mentor and mentee; as completing these three definitions specifying what is meant by mentoring relationship. Following are the four essential ingredients to the effect that mentoring:

Is a special relationship that develops long-term;

Is a relationship that develops between a confident and experienced and a less experienced;
