Introduction

An era of "moral treatment" was presented from Europe at the turn of the nineteenth 100 years, comprising the first of the restructure movements in mental wellbeing services in the United States (U of T Library). The first reformers, encompassing Dorothea Dix and Horace Mann imported the concept that mental sickness could be treated by going the one-by-one to an asylum to obtain a blend of somatic and psychosocial treatments in a controlled natural environment distinguished by "moral" sensibilities (cms.hhs.gov, 2009).
