Introduction

The paper will discuss the evidence based practice in the field of nursing in mental health. The health care system, being organized and centred on the patient, provides open care with the complementarity health facilities, medical and social structures and social institutions of public and private health and private practice. Its sustainability and relevance based on its ability to transform interpersonal relationships developed between its members. This is why, as general hospitals, mental health hospitals also offer a wide range of services in which they have nurses for providing care. Evidence-based practice in nursing is demonstrated by the studies of evidence-based research and experimentation applied in clinical and applied research in a practical way to improve the care and treatment of the patient. The process involves critical testing, analysis, research, study and application of treatment techniques and procedures for obtaining an optimal outcome of the patient.

Discussion

Almost equivalent to the concepts of clinical effectiveness, research-based nursing and application research utilization are needed. Common content of all these concepts is the systematic attempt to take into account when making decisions regarding diagnosis, prognosis and choice of interventions, which require the best currently available research. Evidence-based practice can be understood as a philosophy of rational clinical decision making.

In concrete terms, evidence-based care is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions in the care of individual patients (or patients, patient groups). Focusing on best evidence available indicates that in order to be searched on practical research and in terms of practical issues in the scientific literature research, it is sought and evaluated in terms of its authenticity.

Evidence-based practice is not the mindless, automatic application of research that results in practice, but it is the critical consideration of research findings. Besides ethical aspects, individual patient situation plays a significant role. The biggest obstacle in the implementation of evidence-based care in mental health is the lack of research information on the indication and effectiveness of individual nursing interventions, which involves the evaluation of assessment tools. Practicing mental health nurses must ensure the way they act and also describe the role in the public health code, namely the role of prevention, education health, diagnostic aid (in collaboration with the physician, alone, define the type of pathology presented by the patient and inform thereof), care and patient monitoring (Moyle 2003, 103).

In addition to this, general role of nurses in the mental health is especially strive to develop the autonomy of the patient, to use all the faculties, stimulate physical and mental resources so that it can overcome the handicap, be associated with the care plan, be informed about their treatment and eventually be smoothly reintegrated into their living environment.
