Introduction

Medicare is not the only problem with the American mental health care system. Increasing amounts of individuals, mounting prescription drug costs, escalating amounts of prescription drugs per individual, and the tendency headed for more expensive drugs are several of the additional characteristics troubling the existing mental health care system (Burd, and McCulloch, 2006). We all compensate for these individuals during enlarged medical bills furthermore premiums.

Discussion

We can not just lower the cost of prescription drugs and expect a huge effect on medical costs. We still are going to be faced with the failure of Medicare and the increasing amount of Americans. With the increase in the number of Americans, the increase in the cost of mental health care will come (Farrington, 2005).

With the implementation of a mental health care, Americans will be eliminated, prescription drug costs will be lower, and Medicare will be revived in a different form. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have shown great results in several different countries (Burd, and McCulloch, 2006). SAMHSA have been criticized due to exaggeration of minute problems, where critics look for radical results but do not look for the actual benefits of the system (Brodsky, 2005). To this effect there is no evidence supporting that privatized mental health care systems are more efficient.

The problem does not exist in the lack of money in the system, rather the inefficient use of the funds. "'We already spend twice as much per person on mental health care as other advanced countries that still manage to cover all their citizens.'" Not only would the new mental health care system save enough money to cover all the people but it would save the American taxpayers at least $200 billion a year (Farrington, 2005).
