Our times are undoubtedly dominated by the media, so much so that this is known as the age of the internet, thus a doorway into many different mediums of communication. Mass media is said to occupy every aspect of our lives from the minute we wake up to the instant we go to sleep. It is then, of no small consequence that mass media also covers the imagination as well as all thinking faculties of our generation and society everywhere. The programmes as well as any features that are served up by the mass media in order to instruct people on all aspect of their lives have gone from deciding what to wear, what to eat, what to drive and so on, but it has also a strong influence on a part of the world that is impressionable thus likely to be misguided easily into believing the wrong concepts, such as committing heinous crimes.

Mass media would, in an ideal world, be the catalyst for an effective and positive change in society, but there is no getting past the fact that due to its accessibility and wide reach, it has also been responsible for a lot of crimes we must suffer through today. acts as an effective catalyst of change in society. There is a power struggle easily apparent in our times right now, and the hankering for building the most powerful fortress or being the most prosperous and indulgent in this world is slowly reaching uncontrollable levels. There is a part of media that is responsible and tries to control aspects of media that are negatively affecting society, and also tries to ensure public opinion has a strong say in what can be shown on television and what cannot.
But the age old question of whether or not public opinion has any substantial amount of leverage on decisions made within the media world is still unanswered. These are materialistic times we live in, and money is no longer an object with the economic global crisis slowly being eradicated. There are all kinds of malpractices allowed in the media world now, people do questionable things on air and are rewarded for them. This is all considered quite normal and “daring” which is indeed, the format of many shows. IT also highlights the prevalence of society's ills however, such as nepotism, cronyism and the most widely accepted, corruption in media institutions despite the relentless campaigns being issued against them every day. All of it begs the question of whether or not it may be easier to just turn a blind eye towards the uncontrollable and widely accepted media coverage now. While there are many positives to media as well, more clearly established as being a strong and instrumental part in other corners of the world where it actually helped to bring down oppressive regimes of leaders who did all in their power to suppress the voices of their people.
