Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “MBTI” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “Application of MBTI” and its relation with “psychometric Theory on MBTI”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “MBTI”. Finally the research describes Indices of MBTI and the indications of the test and discusses the related literature on MBTI.

INTRODUCTION

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is developed by Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers, which is a tool of psychology to assess personality. It is a form of personality typology represents. The reliability of the MBTI is controversial, because it is very common that a person cannot identify the type of the test proved (Schaubhut & Thompson, 2008).

The basic principle of the Myers - Briggs test is that if people have different ways of perceiving external reality, relate differently about themselves differently and judge the world around them, they may therefore contain many differences in their reactions in their interests, their values ??and their needs. This creates also the motivation of the individual in what he does as well as subjective preferences in doing one thing rather than another. Therefore it is stated that MBTI is not a test, but an indicator. It measures preferences, not properties or traits with variations (Petersen, 2006).

THESIS STATEMENT

“The MBTI is not a test, but an indicator. It measures preferences, not properties/ traits with variations”.

DISCUSSION

The Indices of the MBTI

The MBTI is based on four separate indices that define the four basic preferences that, according to Jung's theory, the split personality of the human being (Schaubhut & Thompson, 2008).

The first index is EI and highlights if the individual is an extrovert or an introvert. The extrovert is face to the outside world and fits his perception on people and things; the introvert is mainly oriented towards the internal world and projects the perception and judgment on ideas (Petersen, 2006).

The SN index is intended to highlight the preference between two opposite ways of perceiving; rely on feelings, through the 5 senses, or intuition, based on the unconscious (Moshenkov & Wing, 2010).

The TF index is intended to indicate a preference between two opposite ways of judging: based on the thought that defines the true and the false, or feeling, which differs from what has value and what does not have value (Petersen, 2006).

The index JP aims to underline if the individual in dealing with the external environment relies fundamentally on the judgment (T or F) or on the perception (S or N) (Schaubhut & Thompson, 2008).

What Indicate the Test Results of MBTI?

The test result does not indicate a positive or negative value, but only a more complete picture of the person. The MBTI is an instrument of self-analysis. The Myers-Briggs test can help the counselor to determine which professional profile best suited to examining, as well as its ability to work in an organization (Hammer, 2005).

Application of MBTI

The use of the MBTI in the personnel area is especially common in the Anglo-American world. The use of recruitment procedures based ...
