Managing Sustainable Tourism

Introduction

Tourism, in fact, has a number of features that make it an activity to be considered in the development process, so that its eco- proper management can generate a series of positive effects on economic development in any territory (Sharpley and Telfer 2002, p 31-35).

Tourism is defined as those friendly tourist activities with the natural, cultural and social and community values, which allows you to enjoy a positive exchange of experience among residents and visitors, where the relationship between tourists and the community is fair and benefits the activity is distributed fairly, and where visitors have a truly participatory attitude in their travel experience (Edgell 2006, p 15-38).

In the last 10 years, employment and share of global gross domestic product has made tourism one of the major industries in the world. This industry has grown quickly and changed at an incredibly fast rate. Eco-tourism is now one of the highest-growing sectors of the overall tour industry because people are showing interest in spending their vacations in nature more and more. This demand creates many opportunities for regions that our blessed with nature, beauty and wildlife ecosystems. People in those regions have many economic benefits along with opportunity to conserve and sustain that natural attraction. At the same time, however, increased demand for ecotourism may build up pressure on capacity (Bosak 2010, p27-32).

Discussion

There has been huge amount of change in the social, political, cultural and technological environment of Asia in the last 10 years. This has led to the significant expansion of the tourism industry in some Asian countries like Thailand. In many countries, including Thailand, Tourism is also perceived as one of the means of attracting foreign exchange in a country to develop its economy (Edgell 2006, p 15-38). The passion of gathering souvenirs, especially from the sites that are archaeological, has caused serious harm to the site as well as to our history. Tourism may also cause acculturation due to which attitudes, beliefs, mentalities, concepts and relationships of people get affected (Bosak 2010, p27-32).

Occasionally, tourism also has devastating impacts on the social bonds that bring people together. They also have an impact on their beliefs and religion. Due to the increase in entertainments such as discos, bars, restaurants etc, there has been an escalation in the public disturbances, intoxication, destruction, felony, lewdness, etc.

However, tourism is also responsible for the diffusion of different cultures because due to tourism people from different cultural backgrounds come together and establishes a direct link with the locals (Ernest 2005, p 19-22). It is also a good means of providing peaceful and friendly connection with people of different nation and languages.

Sustainable Tourism 

The term sustainable tourism generally describes all forms of alternative tourism that respect, preserve and bring in sustainable heritage resources (natural, cultural and social) of territory to the attention of tourists received, to minimize impacts they could generate negative.
