The success of every organization in today's competitive marketplace depends on the quality of human resource that it acquires. Similarly, the importance of managers in success of organizations cannot be denied as they play a vital role in providing leadership, management and administration to run the organization the way it is supposed to. Managers, according to their roles and responsibilities, play an instrumental role in facilitating organizations to achieve their business objectives and goals through effective planning, organizing, leading and controlling functions which is generally considered as primary job of every manager. Managers mainly contribute in organization success by employing these management functions at all level of management including top, middle and first line.

As discussed above, management in any organization is based on four interrelated functions that form a basic management framework which includes planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
Planning
Planning is the first component out of the four functions and is considered as a core element in the management process. Planning can be seen as a fundamental building block for the whole management framework upon which the other three management functions rely. If any faults or weaknesses exist in planning, rest of the three functions may not be able to produce desired results. This function not only represents the current standing of the organization but also informs where it would be standing in future. It is the “Planning” that differentiates a successful manager from the unsuccessful one. The process of planning is based on the rational thinking and determines what needs to be accomplished through implementing correct course of action in order to attain organizational objectives.
