Introduction

Operations Management is one of the three functions in an organization and fully connected to the other functions of business. All organizations market, finance and produce, which is key for the area of operations or production management in an organization. That is why we study how people organize for production and the way that goods and services generated.

Operations management is the first level of management and operation manager are responsible for core operations of the project. Venue operations management is little bit different than operation management in an organization. The success of any project is highly related to the successful achievement of targets (checkpoints) at operational level. This essay will shed light on the theories of Venue operations management. The essay will also cover key issues of operation management at a venue and the initiative for competitive advantage (Stevenson 2009, pp.12).

Scope

The scope of this essay is the operations management of a venue. The venue is the Olympic park, which will be the venue of summer Olympics and Paralympics 2012.

Purpose

The purpose of the essay is to develop understanding of venue operation management dynamics and develop a plan for competitive advantage.

Key Operational Issues

There are many issues facing the management of a venue. Most of the major issues fall under the management of operation manager. These issues range from meeting deadlines to managing workforce, meeting the quality standards to developing a sustainable venue. There are other broad ranges of factors at operational level such as procurement, suppliers, planning, controlling and other. The successful operations at venue are dependent on the effective venue operations management.

The venue, which I will cover in the essay, is the London 2012 Olympic venue, the Olympic park. The Olympic park, built on 246 hectare land, will stage around 10 sporting venues, as well as, media centres and Olympic Village. Many building will be retained after the end of games. The area of the construction is ideal for sustainability development surrounded by public transportation. The London Olympic Venues provides many insights into the area of venue management. Some key operational issues include the procurement of supplies, movement of heavy logistics, people management (both employees and visitors), water management, waste management, and event security (Ming et.al 2011, pp.15).

On the other hand, the strategy is the plan of action to which the company uses to achieve its objectives and mission.
