Introduction

As the new studies and developments are taking place, there are huge studies that are being done to understand the depression, its epidemiology and its impacts on the society. That shows how much concern is shown to the society, its global awareness of depression, potential towards discovering its improvements and treatments that will promote for better living. In order to cure the disease it should be managed at the primary level and the work has been going since the 1980s. The studies have shown that about 34 million people in America are currently suffering from the Major Depressive Disorder and the people that are suffering from the depression has been mostly caused by impulse-control, substance abuse and anxiety. Anxiety is the state that develops before depression hits (Culpepper, 2003).

The depressive disorders are further divided in different categories that are Dysthymic disorder and Major Depressive Disorder that depends on the level of severity of individuals. It is mainly depends on the episodes of depression mood's occurring. The MDD includes more than one major depressive episode whereas other depressive disorders have comparatively lower severity of the episodes. Basically this disorder is developed through Dystymic disorder when this worsens it results in Major Depressive disorder. Appreciatable there is just a minority of individuals who face more severity of this disorder that results in Hypomanic or Manic episodes where different diagnosis have to be done.

Symptoms, prevalence

The individuals with the Major Depressive Disorder are Codable whether they have more than one Major Depressive Episode either they have nay Hypomanic or Manic episodes. The MDD can be coded according to episodes that if they just have single episode or the episodes keep occurring again and again. In a biopolar disorder it consists of frequent recurring of the disorder episodes where as the Major Depressive Disorder has quite an unpredictable course that mainly depends on the individuals i.e. if the individual has faced only single Major Depressive Episode, it has only fifty percent chances of developing a second episode at some point of their life. As soon as the individual goes through the second episode the patient has 70% more chance of developing the third one soon and continuing increases the chance of fourth episode to 90%. There are about 10-20 % of people who have the capability of developing the chronic form that meets the criteria for the Major Depressive Episode that is for two years. There are different levels of diagnoses depending on the episodes if the individual has faced only one episode they have to be diagnosed for single and if they have their 2nd episode they should be tested for recurring episodes (First, Frances, and ET. al, 2002).

Criteria for diagnosis
