Aswan Dam is described as one of the largest in the world. It was built to complement the old Aswan Dam who was not satisfactory in terms of efficacy and safety. The latter is however still in operation and continues to produce the hydro. Before the construction of this dam, the Nile flooded every summer the fertile plains of the valley, because of the influx of waters from all over East Africa. These floods brought the nutrients and minerals (silt) that made ??fertile soil of the Nile Valley and permitted the agriculture but the increase in population in the valley made ??it necessary to control water to protect agricultural facilities and operations of cotton. The years of "great flood ", entire crops were lost while the years when the flood was smaller, the population suffered from the drought and famine. The purpose of this project was to control flooding, generate the electricity for the country, and provide a reservoir of water for agriculture. In this paper, we try to focus on the maintenance of the Aswan Dam (Asit, 2002, 25).
Discussion
The Aswan Dam is 3600 m long and 980 m wide at the base, 40 m wide at the top and 111 m high with a volume of material of 43 million cubic meters. At maximum capacity can output to 11,000 m³ of water per second. It has additional emergency spillway for a volume of 5,000 m³ and the Toshka Canal, which connects the reservoir to the Toshka depression. This reservoir, named Lake Nasser, is 480 km long and 16 km at its widest point, its surface area is 6,000 km ² and contains between 150 and 165 km ³ of water. Flooded much of lower Nubia and were taken over 90,000 people. ...
